Common dryer problems we fix
A dryer that runs but does not heat is most often a heating element, thermal fuse or gas igniter. Long drying times point to a blocked vent or a failing thermostat. Our technician tests the full heat circuit, belt, rollers and motor, repairs the fault and checks the exhaust for safety.
Dryer not heating
The drum turns but clothes stay cold or damp. On electric dryers it is the heating element, thermal fuse or thermostat; on gas dryers the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils. A clogged vent often causes it.
Not tumbling
If the drum will not turn, the drive belt has usually snapped or the idler pulley or motor has failed. We replace the belt and check the pulley and rollers.
Takes too long to dry
Needing two cycles to dry a load is most often a clogged vent, then a weak heating element or failing cycling thermostat. We clear the vent and test the heat circuit.
Squeaking or banging
Squealing or thumping while the drum turns is usually worn drum rollers, the idler pulley or a dry drum felt seal. We replace the noisy part before it damages the drum.
Burning smell
A burning smell is a warning sign: lint build-up in the vent or around the heater is a fire risk. Stop using the dryer and call us — we clean the vent and inspect the heating system.
Will not start
A dryer that will not start may have a faulty door switch, a blown thermal fuse, a failed start switch or a power problem at the cord or terminal block. We test each in order.

Frequently asked questions
How much does dryer repair cost in Toronto?
Most dryer repairs are $99–249. Thermal fuses, belts and sensors are $99–199; heating elements, igniters and rollers are $179–249.
Why is my dryer not heating?
On electric dryers it is typically the heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat. On gas dryers it is usually the igniter, gas valve coils or flame sensor.
Why does my dryer take so long to dry clothes?
A clogged vent is the number one cause, followed by a weak heating element or a failing cycling thermostat. We clear the exhaust and test the heat circuit.
Is a burning smell from the dryer dangerous?
It can be — lint build-up is a fire risk. Stop using the dryer and call us. We clean and inspect the vent as part of the repair.
How do I know if my dryer vent is clogged?
Clothes need more than one cycle, the dryer or the laundry room gets very hot, or the lint trap is clean but the outside vent flap barely opens. A clogged vent is both the top cause of slow drying and a fire risk, so we clear it as part of the repair.
My gas dryer runs but will not heat. What should I check?
Make sure the gas valve is open and the dryer is plugged in and on a working breaker. If it still does not heat, the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils are the usual culprits — all are quick repairs.
